Dyson CameraJet Review: A Dental Hygienist’s First Look at Dyson’s New Smart Electric Toothbrush

As a dental hygienist, I’ve tested and seen my fair share of electric toothbrushes and water flossers, but the new Dyson CameraJet immediately stood out to me as something genuinely different.

Launched September 1, 2026, Dyson CameraJet combines an electric toothbrush, intraoral style camera, and precision water jet into one innovative oral care device. The goal is to make brushing more visual and personalized by helping you see the areas between your teeth, recognize where you may be missing, and target those areas as you clean.

One of the features that caught my attention right away is Dyson Gap Optical Targeting™ technology. CameraJet uses a 100,000 pixel macro camera and machine learning to scan the mouth in real time, identifying and tracking gaps between teeth. When a gap is detected, the device can activate a targeted conical water jet designed to deliver mouthrinse directly to that area.

And yes, you can actually see what the camera sees through the MyDyson app.

Why the Camera Feature Is So Interesting

From a dental hygienist’s perspective, interdental cleaning is one of the biggest challenges in maintaining good oral hygiene at home.

Even an excellent electric toothbrush cannot completely replace cleaning between the teeth. Traditional flossing can also be challenging because it requires proper technique, consistency, and the motivation to do it every day.

What I find particularly interesting about Dyson CameraJet is that it is addressing both sides of the equation: cleaning and behavior.

Instead of simply telling you to brush better or floss more thoroughly, the technology is designed to provide visual guidance and help direct your attention to areas that may need additional cleaning.

Dyson CameraJet Electric Toothbrush Technology

The toothbrush itself uses dual bristles, with softer outer bristles designed to work around the gumline and firmer inner bristles intended for cleaning tooth surfaces.

Dyson also developed what it calls variable sonic oscillation, which is designed to help the bristles maintain movement instead of stalling when they encounter tooth surfaces.

The precision water jet is another feature I’m particularly interested in. Rather than using a narrow, needle like stream, Dyson says its wider conical jet is designed to sweep plaque and debris away while operating at a lower pressure intended to be gentler on the gums and enamel.

That combination of brushing, visual feedback, and targeted interdental cleaning is what makes CameraJet so intriguing.

Six Years of Oral Care Engineering

There is clearly a significant amount of engineering behind Dyson CameraJet.

According to Dyson, development took six years and involved 661 engineers, 30 dental professionals, and more than 470,000 dental images used in developing its machine learning system.

That level of investment is especially interesting because this isn’t simply an electric toothbrush with a few additional smart features. Dyson is approaching oral care as a combination of technology, imaging, machine learning, and personalized cleaning guidance.

My Take as a Dental Hygienist

My initial impression is that Dyson CameraJet is much more than another electric toothbrush.

It represents an interesting shift toward making oral hygiene more visual, guided, and personalized. The ability to see areas of your mouth while you brush and potentially receive targeted cleaning assistance could make the daily routine more engaging and help users become more aware of the areas they tend to overlook.

I’m especially interested in seeing how intuitive the camera targeting feels during everyday brushing and, most importantly, whether this type of real time guidance can translate into meaningful long term improvements in interdental plaque control.

There is still plenty I want to explore with the device, but as a dental hygienist, I’m genuinely excited about the direction Dyson is taking oral care technology.

My first impression? This is one of the most fascinating electric toothbrush innovations I’ve seen in a long time.
